The train I took across Russia/Siberia was of the same vintage as the train we boarded to Agstafa on Friday night. A big difference was in the maintenance of both the train and tracks in Azerbaijan. The regular clickity clack we heard in Russia, was replaced with the clickity boom clack boom clickity of our current ride. Even in less than ideal conditions, I prefer rail travel to bus travel. Being able to make a bed and sleep is important to my rest cycle, so it was nice to lay down and sleep during the long train ride to Agstafa. We left Baku at 8:30 PM, and were due to arrive at our destination at 6:06 AM according to the official schedule. I know I slept better than anyone else, having spent over a week crossing Siberia, Mongolia, and China on a train.
I woke everyone up early, and had them strip their beds a certain way to satify the nomally grumpy train mother who was sure to appear before we arrived at the stop. With glee she pulled opened the door without knocking to wake us up, only to be disappointed me we not only up, but her linens were ready as well...just as Stalin ordered. Experience pays sometimes.
