Friendly Algiers
Today we spent the day walking the streets of Algiers, seeing the sights, and meeting people. The friends we met yesterday did not show up this morning to meet us so we set out to walk to the center of the city. On the way a man approached us to introduce himself and ask if we would meet and talk with him tomorrow. We set a time for the morning, and will spend some time with him touring a cathedral here in the city. After this we continued until reaching the city center and visiting the Place Port Said. Heading onward toward the Kasbah I heard my name, and it was our two friends who had hunted us down after not finding us at the hotel. We spent the day with them touring the city and sharing some life. Afterward we stopped for a bite to eat and enjoyed a feast with our new buddies. Stacy then met her new deaf contacts and spent time with them. We all ended up back in our hotel room looking at photos and discussing family, politics, and faith. Tonight we are washing clothes and catching up on some much needed rest. With a busy day tomorrow, we are waiting to see when our travel will resume. The people we have met here are all friendly and very helpful. Strangers stop us in the street to just welcome us to Algeria and wish us a beautiful stay here. We have received nothing but warm and friendly vibes since our arrival. It is much the opposite of what we were told to expect. I hope we never find that Algeria we read and hear about. This is much better!
