Carthage in a Day
We started the day at the Information Office located at the local train station. We armed ourselves with maps and information for travel and began our day on a train to the ancient city of Carthage. We exited the train and heading toward the first water we saw. There we found Roman ruins and fantastic views of the Mediterranean Sea. We wandered around Carthage on foot and took in as many sights as we could for free. There are many spots with interesting remains of the Roman city, mixed in with a functioning modern urban setting. At one point we entered an area through a section of broken down fence, climbed to the top of a hill, and found ourselves in amidst the remains of the ancient places of worship. There were foundation remains, statues, pieces of columns, and a museum we did not check out. We also saw, of special zoological interest, a peregrine falcon sitting on a pile of rocks. We were able to get within a few feet of him to even take pictures. We are planning to travel south in the next few days to see the land and escape the tourist areas. My e-mail is not working right now, but I will check it as soon as I can find a faster connection.
