Can I Buy A Vowel Please?
Up early, we caught the 6AM train to Sfax. The morning was much more pleasant than the rains from the evening. We saw a gorgeous sunrise from our side of the train as we passed orchards and farmlands as far as we could see. The flat lands provided an array of color as the day dawned. Along the ride we passed the city of El Jem, which is home to a still intact roman coliseum. It was reportedly a Las Vegas style place when Rome ruled the roost here in North Africa. Sfax is a working class city with little to offer tourists. We love it. The medina is fairly untainted by the tourism industry, and Dean was even able to play a little soccer with some local boys. We made a much needed visit to the Libyan consulate here and actually got in to talk to the big cheese...the head honcho...the guy in charge. He laughed at me a lot but could not help us much. He did give me some direction as to what to try next, so we are working that out now. We had a good day of walking the city and medina, and look forward to what tomorrow holds. Our hotel is called the Hotel du Paix this time around...Paix of crap from what we can tell.
